To minimize uneven torque and maintain smooth rotation, the entire underside of the platter (the record seating surface) is backed with a shock‑absorbing rubber layer that helps control platter inertia. A composite layer of ABS reinforced with fiberglass is bonded to the die‑cast aluminum chassis to create a rigid two‑layer structure, while a spring‑and‑rubber vibration damper provides targeted isolation. The arm is a universally balanced static S‑shape familiar from other Technics decks, and a precision bearing with the same gimbal and housing design used in SL‑1200 units ensures sensitive, stable startup behavior.
