JENO Engine — refined digital pathway

Timing errors (jitter) in digital audio chains are a primary source of distortion. To address this, Technics created a comprehensive jitter-control system that combines a noise-conditioned clock to suppress low-frequency timing errors with a high-precision sample rate converter to remove higher-frequency jitter. Working together with a specially designed precision PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) conversion stage, this approach optimizes noise behavior, quantization steps and PWM resolution so that high-resolution digital signals are converted without sacrificing dynamic range. The result is a transparent, natural presentation that preserves fine musical detail.

ADCT

(Active Distortion Cancelling Technology)



Technics’ Active Distortion Cancelling extracts and removes distortion created at the output stage from speaker back-EMF and voltage drops. Because modern systems are paired with many different loudspeakers, the amplifier must drive varied loads without compromising fidelity. ADCT continuously compares the actual speaker output with the JENO reference and applies corrective adjustments to the digital output, effectively cancelling distortions in real time. The benefit is robust power delivery with the low noise, precise imaging and expansive soundstage inherent to digital amplification, independent of the connected loudspeakers.

Advanced Speed Silent Power Supply

The SU-R1000 employs a switching power architecture tuned specifically for digital amplifier demands. Traditional switching regulators can introduce audible modulation when their switching timing varies with load. Technics solves this by locking the switching frequency at 400 kHz to eliminate modulation noise, and by placing a low-noise regulator at the final stage to preserve regulation quality. This combination suppresses high-frequency contamination and yields a highly responsive power source that supports the amplifier’s full sonic capability.

Four independent power supplies

Every power rail in the SU-R1000 has been considered to preserve audio purity. The design provides four dedicated power supplies partitioned by function: separate supplies for analog and digital circuitry in the preamplifier, and independent supplies for left and right channels in the power amplifier. This segregation prevents cross-coupling and power line interference between sensitive stages, improving signal-to-noise ratio, channel separation and overall musical clarity.

High quality digital/analog input/output circuit

The phono and analog inputs use fully discrete circuits with carefully matched symmetry and tuning to minimize inter-channel interference and maximize separation. The phono and XLR inputs employ fully balanced paths for the cleanest possible signal transfer. The USB/digital input uses premium components — including a ruby mica capacitor and a regulated supply with non-magnetic carbon film resistors — to isolate computer noise and reduce interference. A high-performance AKM ADC handles analog-to-digital conversion with precision. Together, these elements ensure outstanding reproduction from both analog and digital sources.

Rugged chassis and reinforced construction

The enclosure is engineered to suppress panel vibration and internal resonance. Internally the layout is split into two tiers: the upper tier contains the power amplifier and its power supply, while the lower tier houses the preamplifier, analog/digital inputs and their power circuits. Steel plates separate and stiffen the tiers and individual sections, reducing mechanical coupling. The front panel is a 10 mm aluminum slab, with 6 mm anodized side and top panels to boost rigidity. Cast-iron anti-resonance feet further damp vibrations. These structural measures preserve signal integrity and minimize noise introduced by mechanical vibration.

Smart Phono Stage — Phono EQ

The SU-R1000’s Phono EQ combines digital signal processing developed for LAPC with analog front-end design to deliver performance beyond traditional analog-only phono stages. Its three core functions are: accurate equalization, cartridge-specific crosstalk correction, and a response optimizer. Each feature can be enabled or disabled by the user to tailor playback to the cartridge and personal preference.

Accurate equalization via hybrid analog-digital architecture

A hybrid approach preserves low-frequency gain in the analog domain with a high-gain low-pass stage while performing precise high-frequency equalization after A/D conversion. The analog 40 dB LPF reduces quantization load on the digital filters, allowing the digital section to apply accurate high-frequency correction and achieve a superior signal-to-noise ratio.

Crosstalk suppressor — tune the system to your cartridge

Using a calibration record included with the SU-R1000, the crosstalk suppressor measures the actual inter-channel leakage characteristics of the fitted cartridge. The system then applies inverse digital correction tailored to those measurements, improving channel isolation, sharpening the stereo image and widening the perceived soundstage.

PHONO response optimizer — correct cartridge frequency anomalies

The response optimizer uses a time-stretched pulse signal on the supplied calibration disc to measure the cartridge’s frequency response and compensates for irregularities and impedance matching effects. This correction reveals the cartridge’s true sonic character and reduces the need for manual switching on sensitive phono inputs, lowering the risk of added noise.
*The included calibration disc has been verified for correct signal reading, though manufacturing or material variations can sometimes cause slight warping.

*If the disc is stored in unfavorable conditions it may deform. A severely warped disc can impair measurement accuracy and may potentially damage delicate cartridges, so handle and store it with care.
