Coreless direct drive for stable rotation
Direct-drive turntables transfer motor rotation directly to the platter, offering excellent speed accuracy and strong torque for long-term reliability. Traditional direct-drive designs, however, can suffer from torque ripple that disrupts smooth rotation. The SL-1200MK7 adopts a new coreless direct-drive design that removes the iron stator core—the primary cause of torque ripple. Rotor magnets have been maximized and their spacing to the coreless stator carefully optimized. The result is an efficient, high-torque drive comparable to the SL-1210MK5, delivering very smooth rotation and faithful playback of audio from older records.

Torque control and braking speed
Advanced digital motor control—developed during Blu-ray player engineering—lets you set torque and braking in four distinct steps, expanding customization for different techniques and preferences.
Pitch control function
Digital pitch control provides fine adjustment of ±8% or ±16% directly from the slider to motor speed, without extra D/A conversion. This streamlined control improves precision and stability for accurate pitch tuning.
Reverse playback function
A first for the SL-1210 line, reverse playback adds creative possibilities. The function supports 33 1/3, 45 and 78 rpm speeds.
Highly responsive S-shaped tonearm
The tried-and-true S-shaped tonearm delivers static balance and professional reliability. Improved precision bearings increase tracking sensitivity compared with the SL-1210MK6, allowing the arm to follow grooves with minimal stylus skips even under demanding conditions like scratching.
Bright, durable white LED needle illumination
Needle illumination now uses a bright white LED that’s easy to toggle with a button. The light coverage and intensity have been increased so the stylus tip remains clearly visible even in low-light environments.
Detachable power and audio connectors
The unit features detachable connectors for power and audio equipment. Audio outputs are gold-plated to minimize signal loss and maintain sound quality, while removable cables make cleaning and maintenance easier.
Sturdy chassis with vibration-isolating suspension
The plinth—critical for vibration damping—uses professional turntable construction techniques to enhance audio performance. A high-strength ABS/fiberglass composite is rigidly bonded to a die-cast aluminum frame to form a two-layer structure that boosts rigidity and damping. The suspension combines a spring and rubber elements tuned for optimal frequency response, improving sound quality, reducing mic-effect, and protecting playback from external vibrations in noisy environments.
