Coreless Direct-Drive Motor

Traditional analog turntables can suffer from degraded audio caused by rotation-induced vibration and torque ripple, which produces uneven motor rotation. The SL-1200G uses a coreless direct-drive motor to eliminate torque ripple, while its dual-rotor arrangement lowers bearing load and suppresses vibration without sacrificing torque. The result is warm, detailed playback from analogue sources.

Advanced Motor Control

Adapting motor-control techniques developed for Blu-ray players, the system switches operating modes based on motor conditions. This delivers strong startup torque and exceptional stability during high-speed rotation.

Three-layer Platter

The platter combines brass, die-cast aluminium and a rear rubber layer to suppress unwanted resonance. This construction yields high rigidity and damping, producing superb rotational stability and inertial mass more than twice that of the SL-1200MK5 and exceeding the SP-10MK2 — the reference direct-drive turntable in studios worldwide.

Precision Balance Adjustment

Imbalanced components can cause excess vibration and noise that degrade sound. Each unit is individually balanced at the factory using specialised precision equipment to optimise mass distribution. After adjustment, the player receives a “BALANCED” mark to indicate completion.

Highly Sensitive Tonearm

The tonearm uses lightweight magnesium for excellent shock absorption and improved mechanical characteristics. A classic Technics gimbal suspension with intersecting horizontal and vertical pivots, together with precision bearings in a machined cage, provides extremely low friction and high tracking sensitivity.

Four-layer Plinth Construction

Building on the three-layer design of earlier models, the SL-1200G adds a precisely machined 10 mm pure aluminium top panel to cast aluminium, moulded material and heavy rubber. This four-layer construction enhances durability while delivering an elegant, refined appearance.

High-Quality Connectors

Audio and ground connectors are machined from brass and gold-plated to ensure reliable, low-loss connections while remaining easy to attach and remove. An internal metal shield further reduces the influence of external interference.
