Unlike conventional belt-driven designs, direct drive drastically reduces motor-related vibration, delivering outstanding signal-to-noise performance and long-lasting stability without frequent component changes. Earlier generations, however, sometimes suffered from rotational unevenness or "cogging" caused by iron cores. The SL-1200GR2 solves this with an iron coreless single-rotor/single-stator motor, eliminating cogging and ensuring exceptionally smooth, consistent rotation. LOW-NOISE SWITCHING POWER CIRCUIT
A high-speed switching power supply is employed to deliver a stable power source with exceptionally low ripple and hum. Integrating this technology into the turntable design removes the need for a bulky transformer and reduces the requirement for extra mechanical vibration countermeasures. Operating at a switching frequency above 100 kHz keeps potential interference well outside the audible band, preserving the full musical spectrum and ensuring clean, uninterrupted playback.
CURRENT INJECTION ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION
This advanced circuitry pairs a highly sensitive noise detection stage with a precision error amplifier. Rather than merely identifying residual noise on the power line, it actively injects an inverse-phase current to cancel out unwanted components. The outcome is a power supply that outperforms conventional regulators, creating an exceptionally clean, low-noise foundation for your audio, especially in the critical low-frequency region.
TONEARM WITH EXCELLENT INITIAL-MOTION SENSITIVITY
As the key element for accurately reading the grooves, the tonearm must follow the record’s rotation with high precision. Drawing on Technics’ heritage, this design uses a lightweight yet rigid aluminium arm tube in a classic static-balance, universal S-shaped configuration. A gimbal suspension system combined with high-precision bearings enables an initial-motion sensitivity of 5 mg or less, achieved through meticulous hand assembly by skilled technicians. This craftsmanship ensures highly accurate groove tracing. An included auxiliary weight broadens compatibility with a wide range of pickup cartridges.
TWO-LAYER PLATTER WITH OPTIMISED VIBRATION DAMPING
The platter is engineered for sonic excellence through a dual-layer structure combined with carefully positioned damping rubber. This configuration effectively suppresses unwanted resonance, resulting in a clear, enveloping sound field. Using detailed simulation, the aluminium die-cast section has been refined to increase inertial mass and reduce vibration, enhancing rotational stability. Reinforcing ribs on the underside further improve rigidity. Compared with the SL-1200MK5, this platter delivers more than double the damping performance, contributing to an exceptionally refined listening experience.
TWO-LAYER CABINET STRUCTURE
The SL-1200GR2 achieves outstanding rigidity with a cabinet that integrates a two-layer construction, firmly bonding BMC (Bulk Moulding Compound) with an aluminium die-cast chassis for a highly stable platform.
PREMIUM CONNECTION TERMINALS
Gold-plated phono output terminals support detachable cables, ensuring long-lasting, high-quality connections. Internal metal shielding within the chassis further reduces the influence of external electromagnetic noise on the audio signal.
HIGH-DAMPING SILICONE INSULATORS
For the feet supporting the chassis, the SL-1200GR2 adopts special silicone rubber insulators that deliver excellent vibration damping and ensure long-term stability in performance.
