CORELESS DIRECT DRIVE MOTOR FOR PRECISE, STABLE ROTATION
In 1970, Technics transformed the world of turntables with the introduction of the first-ever direct drive system. Unlike conventional belt-driven designs, direct drive dramatically reduces vibration from the motor, delivering an excellent signal-to-noise ratio and long-term reliability without regular belt or pulley replacement. Early generations, however, could suffer from “cogging” caused by iron cores, which slightly disrupted rotational smoothness. The SL-1200GR2 employs a coreless, single-rotor/single-stator motor that removes iron from the design, effectively eliminating cogging and ensuring ultra-smooth, consistent platter rotation. ADVANCED MOTOR-DRIVE TECHNOLOGY, ΔΣ-DRIVE (DELTA SIGMA DRIVE)

LOW-NOISE SWITCHING POWER CIRCUIT
A high-speed switching power supply is utilised to maintain a consistently stable power output with very low ripple and hum. By integrating a compact switching supply directly into the design, the need for a bulky transformer is removed, as well as the extra countermeasures normally required to control mechanical vibration. Operating above 100 kHz, the switching frequency sits far outside the audible range, keeping any related noise well away from the music signal and helping preserve the entire audio bandwidth for clear, uninterrupted playback.
CURRENT INJECTION ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION
This sophisticated circuit combines an accurate noise-sensing element with a high-performance error amplifier. Instead of merely monitoring residual noise on the power line, it actively counters it by feeding in an inverse-phase current to cancel unwanted noise components. As a result, the effective noise reduction surpasses that of conventional voltage regulators, creating an exceptionally clean and stable power environment with significantly reduced low-frequency interference.
HIGH-SENSITIVITY TONEARM FOR PRECISE TRACKING
The tonearm, vital for accurate groove tracing, must follow the record’s motion with minimal resistance. Staying true to Technics’ heritage, this arm utilises a lightweight yet rigid aluminium tube in a classic, static-balance, universal S-shaped configuration. A gimbal suspension structure combined with high-precision bearings delivers an initial-motion sensitivity of 5 mg or less, achieved through meticulous hand-assembly by experienced technicians. This ensures the stylus tracks the groove with outstanding accuracy. An additional auxiliary weight is included, allowing compatibility with a broad range of phono cartridges.
TWO-LAYER HEAVY PLATTER WITH EFFECTIVE VIBRATION DAMPING
The platter is engineered to enhance sonic purity through a two-layer structure combined with carefully placed damping rubber. This construction efficiently suppresses undesired resonances, resulting in cleaner, more engaging sound. Extensive simulation has been used to optimise the aluminium die-cast portion, increasing inertial mass and reducing vibration for better rotational stability. Additional reinforcing ribs on the underside further boost rigidity. Compared with the SL-1200MK5, this platter achieves more than double the damping performance, supporting an exceptionally refined listening experience.
DUAL-LAYER CABINET STRUCTURE
The SL-1200GR2 body utilises a rigid dual-layer chassis that firmly integrates a BMC (Bulk Moulding Compound) base with an aluminium die-cast frame. This solid, composite construction effectively suppresses vibration and enhances overall structural stability.
PREMIUM CONNECTION TERMINALS
The turntable is equipped with gold-plated phono output terminals that support detachable interconnect cables, ensuring a reliable, low-resistance audio path. Internal metal shielding construction helps block external interference, further reducing noise pickup from surrounding equipment.
HIGH-DAMPING SILICONE INSULATORS
For the feet that support the chassis, the SL-1200GR2 employs specially formulated silicone rubber insulators that deliver excellent vibration absorption and long-lasting stability.
